CertainTeed continues expansion at Jackson Plant

CertainTeed Corporation is a world leader in the manufacture of quality building materials. The 300-employee production facility on Liberty Street in Jackson, Michigan manufactures a wide range of vinyl siding, vinyl decking and accessories for customers throughout North America.

CertainTeed recently engaged O’Harrow Construction Co. to design and construct new building enclosures to house its’ several operations over a sprawling ten acre plant site. The project, which took almost four years to complete, provided over 450,000 SF of building space while keeping the plant in continuous operation with no lost time.

Continuing growth has spurred the need for additional building space, and CertainTeed has again turned to O’Harrow for another 9,000 SF design/build project. The new space will provide an enclosed truck loading facility. Mike Sharp serves as O’Harrow’s project manager with Andy Soltis as superintendent. Construction is scheduled to complete in February, 2003.

Stricter storm water regulations from the federal government, which take effect in March 2003, will impact smaller construction projects. In addition to the requirement for a storm water runoff permit, the regulations require periodic inspection by a State Certified Operator, and the maintenance of records. The new regulations will result in more government and more cost, and come complete with sanctions to the owner if not complied with. Owners should verify compliance through their design/build contractor or design professional.
